Custome Skate Sharpening and Sales

Wondering about this company, Custom Skate Sharpening & Sales? Well, its owners are Nancy and Dave Kimmel. Dave has been involved in one aspect or another of skating since 1966. He was introduced to skating as a Boy Scout, found he loved the sport, sold some of his electronic equipment to buy his first pair of skates and actually started working for the only rink in the Phoenix area a very short time later. This rink was a small rink at 30th Street and Thomas Road in a Quonset hut style building.

David learned the fine art of sharpening and fitting of skates from his mentor, Edwin Carney. Mr. Carney was the owner of several Ice Arenas and Bowling establishments in the 60's and 70's. Under Mr. Carney's directions, Dave learned the proper way that skates should be sharpened, fitted, and mounted. He learned that the customer is more than a customer. You treat the customer with respect and as a vital part of your business. This was Mr. Carney's ethic, and has always been Dave's ethic and practice, to treat his customers with respect. Even more, was to share his love of the sport with his customers and hope that they would also have a love of skating.

Dave received his retail license to sell in 1984. He has been on the Board of the Skating Club of Phoenix, several times. He has been a Music Coordinator for the US Figure Skating Association from 1986 to present, where he has also served as Chairman of the Music Committee. He has been assigned to be a Music Technician at many National and World events, and in 2002 was privileged to be a technician at the Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City. He currently is an independent member of the U.S.F.S.A. and a "Life Member" from the Skating Club of Phoenix.

Dave has figure skated, both freestyle and dance, played hockey, and even did a little speed skating. He competed in two regional championships in the 70's in Ice Dance. He currently has one Pre-gold dance test passed towards his Gold dance test.

A skating friend introduced Nancy to skating, in the Phoenix area. When she needed skates, her friend directed her to Dave. As they say, the rest is history. Nancy became Dave's partner in both skating and life. She is also a bronze level dancer. Nancy is a vital member of the Custom Skate team, doing most of the ordering of apparel and accessories. The design and layout of the store is much to her credit.

Custom Skate Sharpening & Sales is designed for the skater by skaters.
